A full case history

Every chiropractor specializing in family / motherhood / pregnancy care understands the value of a great set of chiropractic pregnancy pillows. Moms who have not been able to lay on their pregnant bellies LOVE the pillows.

PregoPillows are made of high-grade, industrial quality foam that can support the weight of someone lying face down. The center is cut out, allowing ideal space for a pregnancy belly to be safely, & comfortably supported while the doctor analyzes spinal & pelvic alignment, as well as check for ligament tightness.

A full case history

You may be referred to a chiropractor by your doctor, specialist or yourself. Typically, new patient appointments will last approximately 45 minutes, and will comprise of a thorough history, examination and X-rays if medically required.

This thorough examination is necessary to accurately diagnose your condition, as well as to ensure that you are indeed a candidate for chiropractic treatment.

Complete physical exam

Providing our patients with a complete physical exam ensures that we find the root cause of their health problems. This way we are able to treat the cause of the problem more accurately.

Neurological and orthopaedic tests

A neurological test assesses motor and sensory skills, the functionality of cranial nerves, hearing and speech, vision, coordination and balance, mental status, as well as changes in mood and behaviour. These tests and procedures are vital tools that help chiropractors to confirm or rule out the presence of a neurological disorder or other medical condition.

The goal of the orthopaedic test is to detect any abnormalities in the body.

Chiropractic manipulation/adjustments

There are many different manipulative techniques that can be utilized in chiropractic. A chiropractic adjustment refers to a chiropractor applying manipulation to the vertebrae that have abnormal movement patterns or fail to function normally.

The objective of this chiropractic treatment is to reduce the subluxation, with the goals of increasing range of motion, reducing nerve irritability and improving function.

Soft tissue therapy

Soft tissue therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body. This form of chiropractic treatment helps alleviate discomfort associated with occupational stresses, muscular over-use and many chronic pain conditions. If treatment is sought soon after accidents involving trauma and injury, soft tissue therapy can reduce the development of painful muscular patterning.

Dry needling/acupuncture

Acupuncture and dry needling are commonly used for pain relief in areas such as the human back. However, these forms of therapy can be used to treat nearly all sources of pain related to the muscle and joints. Dry needling is an effective and efficient technique for the treatment of muscular pain and myofascial dysfunction.

Heat and cold therapy

Heat and cold are the two most common types of non-invasive pain-relief therapies for muscles and joints. Which one you use depends on whether the pain is new or recurring.

Heat increases the blood flow by opening the blood vessels which supplies oxygen and nutrients to reduce pain in joints. It also relaxes muscles, ligaments and tendons. Heat decreases muscle spasms and increases range of motion.

Cold slows down blood flow to an injury, thereby reducing pain and swelling. Cold therapy slows circulation, reducing inflammation, muscle spasm, and pain. It should be used if the area is swollen or bruised.

Stretching exercises

Stretching before you exercise is just as important as the exercise itself.  It is not only important to your body but also to your mind. Stretching helps improve flexibility, correct your posture, decrease the risk of injury to your muscles, increase blood and nutrients supply to muscles in order to reduce soreness.

In addition, 10 to 15 minutes of stretching can calm the mind by providing a mental break, giving your body a chance to recharge.

Strengthening exercises

Strengthening exercises is essential to the overall health and wellbeing of an individual. Strength exercises involves the use of resistance or weights to work on a muscle group. Being active is beneficial to the body, but it takes a focused effort to work muscles by either using weights, or your own body weight, to get the benefits of strength training.

The benefits of strength exercises are too important to be overlooked when committing to a healthy lifestyle.

Strapping and Kinesiology taping

Kinesiology tape is a thin, elastic cotton strip with an acrylic adhesive that is used for treating athletic injuries and a variety of physical disorders. Made to be almost identical to human skin, kinesio tape can be worn without binding, constricting or movement restrictions.

Strapping and kinesio taping is popular amongst professional athletes who want to prevent injuries and improve their sports performance.
